Abstract

Creation or enlargement of interatrial communications can be achieved using a variety of transcatheter techniques including transseptal needle puncture or RF perforation, balloon septostomy, blade septostomy, fenestrated devices, and stent implantation. The procedure can improve hemodynamics acutely in a variety of compromised circulations or provide effective palliation until definitive surgery can be attempted
