Abstract

High content of sulfur in bauxite limits the use of high-sulfur bauxite in the production of Bayer alumina. Flotation process was employed for the desulfurization of bauxite in this work. Effects of particle size of the high-sulfur bauxite, flotation agent dosage, pulp pH main flotation parameters on the sulfur removal rate were mainly discussed. And the optimum conditions can be obtained. Experimental results show that under the optimum condition of content of particle below 0.074 mm 72.4%, pH 9.5, collector dosage of 140 g/t, activator dosage of 120 g/t and the 2/3 original dosage of collector and activator in cough flotation, the sulfur content in the concentration decreases from 5.61% to 0.62%, the sulfur removal rate reaches 88.95 wt% and the alumina recovery rate is 74.12 wt%.
