Abstract

A majority of the elderly experience constraints in contributing their services to community towards extrinsic value due to their frailty. However, the elderly may be able to remain productive in terms of intrinsic value. ICT offers good opportunities to promote the elderly in social activities regardless to their weaknesses. The aim of this study is to investigate the dimensions (activities) for productive ageing. The respondents are thirteen elderly people in the urban Klang Valley region. Theory-Driven content analysis is performed on the qualitative data to discover the dimensions of productive ageing. Three dimensions of productive ageing have been discovered in this research, which are Volunteering, Caregiving, and Self Development. There are eight types of sub-activities in these three dimensions. The activities of dimensions of productive ageing discovered in this research should receive attention from other researchers and IT developers so that activities may be realized in a virtual context.
