Abstract

People are bad at recognising pictures of people we don't know. In fact photographs of different people can look more similar than pictures of the same person. This is important in pin-pointing people from closed circuit television images. CCTV can show what happened or an order of events, but proper identification can be quite difficult. We can recognise familiar faces even as they age, such as in the case of ageing actors and rock stars.
