Abstract

This paper focuses on a response-driven Web-based assessment system enhancing learning. The system responds to students' needs as they progress through the system. A structured environment, suitable for producing automatic help through logic-based and qualitative reasoning mechanisms guiding students in their navigation, is provided. To decide when to recommend a student to solve another problem, it is necessary to assess the student's knowledge and the level of confidence she has in her answers. This is achieved in an automatic way allowing students to work without a human tutor. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
