Abstract

The healthcare industry is a complex domain that is currently in the midst of considerable transformation. In order to successfully navigate this changing environment, healthcare leaders require a specific set of competencies. Leaders must first align their organizations behind a vision statement that acts as the foundation of and inspiration for the organization. The subsequent determination of the gap between the current state of the organization and the organizational vision allows for the establishment of specific organizational goals. To achieve these goals, transformational leadership techniques, including systems thinking and “tests of change,” have the greatest chances of success. Additionally, employees must be empowered and motivated to achieve excellence. In this regard, although incentives are necessary, their efficacy is limited. Leaders must understand the importance of maximizing employee satisfaction. Coaching and leadership development are crucial to maintaining organizational excellence for years to come.
