Abstract

The phase equilibrium of the Fe-Mn-Al ternary system plays an important role in development of cryogenic alloys and heat-resistant steels. In the present work, the isothermal sections of Fe-Mn-Al system were calculated at different temperatures from 1500°C to 400°C at an interval of 100°C. The calculated results indicate that there is a three-phase region (α+γ+βMn) from 1000°C to 400°C. The position of the three-phase region (α+γ+βMn) moves to the lower Mn content region with temperature decreasing. Besides, the relative experiments also processed by use of optical microscopy and electron probe after heat treatment for equilibrium condition. © 2008 American Institute of Physics.
