Abstract

Mitsubishi Chemical Co.Ltd. started its business with coal chemistry, then got to cover petroleum chemistry, basic raw materials, so on. It has enlarged its business areas to deal with functional raw materials by use, pharmaceuticals and biochemistry. In chemical industry R&TD (research, technical development) is indispensable so that versatile approaches have long been taken for knowledge management inside the Company. Knowledge management studied and practiced inside its Yokohama General Research Institute has deployed and spread over R&TDs of the Company. R&TD has been divided into three classes since its beginning, that is, class 0 for basic information gathering stage, class 1 for stage of research being carried out, and class 2 for stage of using documents including reports. This paper describes procedures and methods of each class, which were conducted at Yokohama General Research Institute in 2000.
