Abstract

Radar is a device that employs electromagnetic waves to determine the existence and location of objects by relying on the strength of received reflected waves. The term radar is an acronym for radio detection and ranging. Depending on the frequency range, the radar sensor is applied in many fields including automotive applications. In this chapter, we present an overview of the principles behind radar operation. Some of the challenges faced by radar designers are given at the end of the chapter.
