Abstract

The emerging technology called Internet of Things (IoT) for the various applications related to the smart cities under the significant research and developments. The studies reveals that the routing is key part of IoT applications such as monitoring systems, vehicular systems etc. Thus the designing the robust routing protocols is always the difficult tasks for the researchers by considering the generalized IoT applications. There are distinct kinds of routing protocols, however in IoT applications, the information needs to be transmitted to particular groups of nodes, and hence the most of IoT applications prefer to use the multicasting approach. This can be done by using the multicast routing protocols. Currently there are different kinds of multicast routing protocols designed for the wireless network communications. In the given paper, we displaying the study of some recent multicast routing protocols for the wireless communications, and then design the different IoT based networks for their performance evaluation. We designed the IoT networks with various network conditions using the NS2 simulator. The outcome of this paper is the identification of current research problems based on experimental analysis.
