Abstract

A conceptual review of strategic management, information systems management and quality is done, and the design and implementation of a strategic management information system developed by the University of Bío-Bío is described. The study is done using information of a Chilean public university, for the period 2010-2016. Trough the case study, it was discovered that the information system implemented, contributed to the quality of the decision-making process of the institution and due to the strategic and innovative nature, the intellectual property of the system was legally registered. Finally, this article presents both aspects, planning and development of a strategic management system that allows the formulation and online tracking of planning. It is concluded that this was a successful experience that can be replicated by other institutions, thus contributing to the higher education system.
