Is There Evidence for a Magnetic Map in Homing Pigeons?

Abstract

The sensory basis of the pigeon’s “map” remains the central mystery in pigeon homing. Several lines of evidence are discussed which suggest that the pigeon’s “map” may be at least partly based on the earth’s magnetic field.
