Configuration management as ‘glueware’ for development of client/server-applications in heterogeneous and distributed environments

Abstract

This position paper discusses the application of configuration management in distributed and heterogeneous development environments. Essential key is a central repository and the usage of triggers and check in/out mechanisms. These mechanisms establish the interaction of repository and processing sites and are governed by specific attributes of the items stored in the repository. An example is presented and experiences are discussed in terms of benefits and problems.
