Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) was the first biotherapy tested in lung cancer in the modern era. Early randomized trials suggested that various forms or extracts of BCG could induce immune responses in patients with lung cancer [88]. However, after the reporting of numerous randomized trials that explored intrapleural, cutaneous, and intralesional BCG, this approach was abandoned. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2009.
