Abstract

The configuration of technical systems is one of the most successful application areas of knowledge-based systems. This article overviews and evaluates the developed representation technologies and problem-solving methods, successful application fields and software-tools for configuration of the last few years. Current research themes and perspectives for the application of knowledge-based systems are presented as an outlook for the future. © 1999 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
