Abstract

the goal of this chapter is to review psychometric research on the assessment and classification of child and adolescent psychopathology / these studies have involved the multivariate analysis of data obtained from behavioral checklists and rating scales, and the quantitative scaling and standardization of such ratings in this chapter, the methods and findings of psychometric research will be surveyed, with an emphasis on studies aimed at identifying behavioral syndromes the results of psychometric studies will be compared to child psychiatric diagnoses embodied in the third edition of the DSM [Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders] the utility of psychometric research, including the reliability and validity of empirically derived measures, will be summarized, and the achievements and future prospects of psychometric research will then be discussed (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
