Of all animals man is most seriously affected by atherosclerosis and its complications. In an attempt to explain this fact extensive surveys of many different kinds of animals have been made ranging from fish to elephants and eagles. This was done primarily to try to identify factors in the life style of man and by comparison with other animals which may promote or prevent the development of atherosclerosis.
