Abstract

The article presents a study on the prevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis E virus (HEV) in the patients with acute viral hepatitis in India. The authors conducted a non-random sampling of patients to determing the co-infection of HAV and HEV in such patients. They state that the seroprevalence of HAV is much higher than that of HEV and that such data is essential for planning of future vaccination strategies and sanitation programs in the country.
