Abstract

This book, containing the proceedings of the Third Tbilisi Symposium, reflects the progress made in cerebrovascular research. The Tbilisi Symposia on cerebral circulation have won a world-wide reputation because of their unique character. A panel of internationally known experts in physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, anatomy, neurology, neurosurgery, and medical physics, reported on their latest findings. The programme was focussed on the most actual problems of cerebral circulation: physiology, pathophysiology of the vascular smooth muscle cells in the brain; neural and humoral effects upon the cerebral vessels; nervous activity and cerebral circulation; the mechanism of cerebrovascular regulation; and general pathology of cerebral circulation. The stimulating discussions that followed each lecture are all included in the proceedings. Because of the complexity of the topic and the new light in which the details are discussed, this book should be of interest to basic scientists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and anaesthetists as well.
