Abstract

Dying was a ʼnatural’ process before the modernization of medicine and advancement in medical technologies. Modern medicine and new medical technologies are now increasing life expectancy and thus increasing the number of patients with chronic diseases admitted to the intensive care unit. Although new technologies and drugs do not cure the patient but it prolongs the life of patients by providing secondary support [1, 2]. It is very important for oncologist and critical care physician to identify the dying patient and follow medical ethics. Good communication between the patient, caregiver, oncology, critical care practitioner and all allied services is crucial for taking decision and to provide end of life care.
