Abstract

In this paper 51 species that are used in Afro-brasilian rituals of Rio de Janeiro are listed by their popular names. Data concerning their geographic origins and popular use are presented and, if it's possible, their habit and distribution in Brazil. The correct methodology for this type of study is discussed also.
