Abstract

This chapter explores Prelinguistic Milieu Teaching (PMT), an intervention designed to teach children to initiate nonverbal communication during social routines in their natural environment as a foundation for later spoken word production. First, we will discuss the theoretical background of PMT, which is typically viewed as a transactional model. Then, we will describe the implementation of PMT and review the available research. Finally, we will provide suggestions for further research and implications for practitioners. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
