Abstract

As a result of the political and social changes and movements of recent years, and in order to respond to the challenges of today's society, schools have found it necessary to renew their educational practices and pedagogical approaches. In view of this situation, this study aims to identify what Pedagogical Renewal (PR) is in Spain today. Specifically, the article aims to reconceptualize PR today from the socio-historical context, teachers' testimonies, terminology and current theoretical references, and also from educational practices. To this end, a systematic review has been carried out following the PRISMA guidelines from the initial selection of 498 publications from Scopus, WoS and Google Scholar, filtered according to inclusion criteria, obtaining a final sample of 77 articles. The main results show that there is no exact definition of PR, but there are key elements that have been maintained over time, such as the need for educational improvement and the link to pedagogical currents, which allow us to identify the foundations of PR today. In conclusion, the traces of PR from the beginning of the 20th century are still present in Spain, although with different nuances and forms.
