The rapid growth of research on organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is continuing a trend that started in the West (i.e., North America and West Europe) 25 years ago and provides us with an opportunity for a critical examination of conceptualisations, methodologies, findings and implications. This paper presents the literature on the dimensions and construct of OCB, its antecedents and consequences in the PRC and in comparison to North America and West Europe. More specifically, we: a compare the various forms of OCB identified in the literature b critically examine the empirical findings for both antecedents and consequences of OCB c indicate research gaps for future research in both the PRC and North America and West Europe.
