PTSD has become a lightening rod for the storms currently raging in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines between scientifically minded researchers and practitioners and those whose theories and interventions are less rooted in science. Recent research has cast in sharp relief many of the issues surrounding PTSD. Although many questions remain unanswered, emerging data point to the potential importance of avoiding suggestion of permanent pathology in the critical period immediately following the experience of trauma, and support the efficacy of various CBT treatments for those who develop persistent posttraumatic symptoms. © 2006 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
