This book is a major contribution to the debate on future land development strategies, as well as helping to supporting land use decision making at all levels. A key strength is the book's multi-disciplinary approach, covering all the dimensions of land use as well as the scientific basis for decision-making. Scientists from across Europe installed the Landscape Tomorrow network to prepare for upcoming challenges in research on sustainable land development. Now, they offer up the fruits of their labours. In this publication they analyse the general principles of land use multifunctionality, moving on to highlight the specific requirements of, and approaches to, implementing multifunctional land use from a variety of disciplinary viewpoints. Crucially, the book disseminates good practice through a number of real-life examples, as the authors report on success stories of multifunctional land use in a number of geographical and political settings. They also provide a how-to guide on modeling and monitoring approaches to scientifically assess the impact of mutlifunctional land use implementation. The book contributes to the scie. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007. All rights are reserved.
