Abstract

The main use of palms in this genus is for thatch. Such is the case with wide-ranging Geonoma deversa which occurs from Central America into parts of northern South America. Mostly confined to upland forests, this understory palm is arguably the most commonly used palm in the genus for thatching dwellings.
