This research is motivated by the lack of students' ability to speak in the learning process, such as asking and answering teacher questions. Through the learning method role playing is expected to improve students' speaking ability. This research was conducted at SDN 005 Pulau Kumpai, Pangean District. The instrument used was the observation sheet of students' speaking ability. The results showed that the students 'speaking ability in the first cycle was 67.05 which is a sufficient category, this result has not reached the expected indicators so it was continued and made improvements in cycle II which resulted in students' speaking ability with an average percentage of 75.29 which was included in the category good. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the ability to speak the theme of my activities for grade 1 students at SDN 005 Pulau Kumpai, Pangean District can experience an increase through the learning method of role playing.
