Abstract

Adolescence is recognized as a developmental transition toward successful creation of an adult identity and a sense of ownership and comfort with personal beliefs and values. Adolescent emotional and cognitive resources are stretched by attempts at developing a sense of self, gaining autonomy from parents, and refining self-control. Teens with epilepsy and other chronic conditions have the additional burden of finding a way to integrate their health condition and its management into their daily lives. © 2009 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
