Abstract

An image fusion algorithm based on Energy Coefficient Matrix (ECM) is presented in this paper. Energy coefficient matrix is computed and proved to indicate the clarity of a pixel at a particular physical location. Based on this clarity value, a fusion decision map has been created. This decision map provides information about which pixel to choose at a particular physical location in wavelet domain. Comparison of the scheme proposed in this paper has been done with two other well known techniques based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Discrete Wavelet Frame Transform (DWFT). Experimental results have shown that the performance of the algorithm proposed in this paper is superior to that of DWT and DWFT-based one. © 2007 Springer.
