Abstract

The concept of space in manufacturing business transactions is extending. Space expansion in manufacturing business transactions leads to an increase in transportation time. It is important for corporations to shorten transportation times and to maintain specific transportation times. Corporations use expressways to shorten and maintain transportation times in product delivery. The purpose of this study was to clarify how expressways are involved in the establishment of just-in-time systems. Therefore, space in the delivery of products and whether corporations make use of expressways in delivery were investigated. A survey of the motor parts industry, in which the just-in-time system is typical, was carried out. If the distance to the delivery point is long, Corporations use expressways. When corporations emphasize shortening transportation times and keeping a regular transportation schedule rather than cutting transportation costs, they use expressways. The reason is to stabilize production. When corporations emphasize cutting transportation costs, they do not use expressways. The use of expressways in delivery is also influenced by the customer.
