Abstract

The determination of solar cell value as function of efficiency provides a valuable, in fact the only available, tool for the selection of modules for a given system or for the assessment of the cost-effectiveness of solar cell and module fabrication processes. This value/efficiency relationship is dominated by the Area-Related Balance-Of-System costs. Their future magnitude is, however, rather uncertain. An assumption of this magnitude will radically influence the direction of the photovoltaic module R & D to be undertaken, but the wrong direction would endanger the future large-scale commercialization.
