Abstract

Grin cryptocurrency is one of the most recent implementations of Mimblewimble – specific stripped-down blockchain design as basis for strong privacy and good scalability features, which are complementing each other. Considering recent Grin inception and ongoing development there is a lack of research providing guidelines for optimizing mining efficiency in Grin’s network. In this study we aimed to experimentally test the influence of some factors on GPU mining efficiency, which should be taken into account. We have found, that choosing the right combination of mining software and GPU specific parameters are among them. In general, NVIDIA and AMD GPUs were comparably effective. The results may be relevant for creators of alternative cryptocurrencies, for which GPU mining is a part of design.
