Abstract

A wealth of information is available through the empirically supported treatment (EST) literature on treating pediatric overweight for clinicians, and we would be remiss if this information was not used to benefit those seeking treatment in applied settings. Additionally, some evidence has been provided that the use of an EST for pediatric overweight in an applied setting has beneficial results (Johnston & Steele, 2007). It is the goal of this chapter to identify the components that have considerable support in treating this problem, and provide examples of how these can be implemented in a clinical setting. In most cases, ESTs for overweight children have many similarities, and these similarities will be listed in an attempt to provide a clinician with multiple components that should be incorporated throughout treatment. This chapter will also provide some limitations and possible adjuncts to ESTs that are being examined. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
