Abstract

We discuss methods which allow the fairing of discrete curves andsurfaces. The primary objective is to retain and even enhance importantfeatures such as surface edges and corners. Two alternative approachesare presented. On the one hand an anisotropic geometric diffusionproblem is discussed which respects edge features and in additionincorporates tangential smoothing along noisy edges. On the otherhand we formulate an anisotropic energy, where the local energy integrandreflects detected geometric features. Furthermore new discretizationsof anisotropic curve and surface evolution are presented.
