Abstract

Measurements of Hall cell primary fluoride evolution were made over a nine-month period from 1975 December to 1976 August on two smelting pots at Alcoa's Badin, N. C. works. Observation of primary pot fluoride evolution was made for thirteen 48-hour periods and correlated with process operating parameters, ambient conditions, and raw material composition. Variations in those parameters which are controllable were intentionally introduced and parameters which were not controllable were measured. The resulting equation relates total primary flouride evolution to operating and raw material parameters for blended alumina and aluminum fluoride feed.
