Abstract

This chapter describes the most prominent display metrology parameters and procedures, including luminance, contrast ratio, and gray scale. Each topic will be explained with typical examples; an overview is also provided in chapter "{contains as normal subgroup}Overview of the Photometric Characterization of Visual Displays." The display measurement equipment required to carry out these measurements is presented in chapter "{contains as normal subgroup}Measurement Devices," with test patterns provided in chapter "{contains as normal subgroup}Standards and Test Patterns." All these measurements can be performed under varying conditions such as changing viewing angle (chapter "{contains as normal subgroup}Viewing Angle”) or ambient light levels (chapter "{contains as normal subgroup}Ambient Light”).
