Abstract

This paper presents an agent-based solution for the problem of designing complex ambient intelligence systems. The solution offered is a method of combining many subsystems, developed individually, into a bigger, more complex, system, meant to make use of the collective intelligence emerging from collaboration of all the subsystems. An example of such a complex ambient intelligence system is the environment built around a smart city, where it is desired to improve the experience of the inhabitants of a city, while still carefully using the available resources. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
