Abstract

The spectrum of sea level at La Jolla and Honolulu between O and 3 cycles per day (cpd) consists of the tidal line spectrum superimposed on a continuous spectrum. The continuum is peaked near “zero frequency”, rising from 1 cm2/cpd at 0.3 cpd to 104cm2/cpd at 0.003 cpd. In the vicinity of the strong tidal lines the continuum rises into “cusps”, presumably due to non‐linear interaction of the lines with the lowfrequency continuum. Copyright © 1965, Wiley Blackwell.
