Abstract

This essay is a contribution both to the semantics of natural language and to ontology. in it i examine different types of semantic links, some types of ambiguity, and two radically different types of families of concepts and properties. in particular, i investigate the following issues: (1) the different types of negation; (2) the unity of types of negation; (3) different types of genus-species unity; (4) five theories that can prima facie account for the unity of the family of colors, and for the unity of each family of determinate shades under one determinable; (5) crucial structural differences between the family of colors and the family of negations; (6) the bearing of negation on russell's paradox.
