Abstract

Attempts to explore how a group of adolescent English as a second language (ESL) readers developed the ability to identify and understand abstract literacy concepts like symbolism and theme. Example of high school English learners who display the ability to discuss complex literary topics; Reflection on the possible classroom process to develop the ability to use and understand abstract literacy concept; Ways to accomplish rechaining of the discussion developed by students; Implication of the study to ESL teachers.
