Within the delta, salinity is a major factor controlling the distribution of the various crustaceans. Alteration of the salinity, substrate or fringing vegetation by the proposed damming of the Purari River would change the productivity of the crustacean fauna in not only the Purari, but also the adjacent Aird Delta.-from Author
