Abstract

The introductory chapter about in the EUROAC survey describes the major questions about the academic profession and it tracks how the academic profession evolved to be an empirical topic. To understand the design of the EUROAC project, it is helpful to have a look at the development of the project that goes back several decades ago. Finally, the chapter gives insight how the various national teams collaborated and what methods were used to collect data in each country.
