This chapter offers a case study of the newspaper and television businesses as they morph into the digital age. The chapter begins with an overview of the challenges facing these industries and the changes they have made to adapt to digital consumers. It then compares these changes, discusses the ramifi cations and looks toward the future of newspapers and television, suggesting that although the televi- sion business may be better positioned to sustain more traditional models, incumbent players in both worlds need to reinvent themselves to cater to the digital consumer. The chapter offers suggestions for steps incumbent players should take to remain relevant in a digital world.
