Abstract

The management of xerostomia (dry mouth) in Sjogren's syndrome includes rinsing of the mouth with water or mouthwash, the application of salivary substitutes and lubricants, and systemic secretagogues. There are three secretagogues suitable for alleviation of dry mouth in Sjogren's syndrome patients in Japan. Because cevimeline is the most prevalent secretagogue now, we describe the prediction of the effect of cevimeline in patients with Sjogren's syndrome. In addition, the usefulness of the mouth guard for prevention of hyperevaporation of saliva and immunological management are discussed in this chapter.
