Abstract

The author considers in detail the problems of the origin of the non-radio emission from the young isolated radiopulsars, effects from the evolution of neutron star properties (especially magnetic fields), and how these might lead to older neutron stars in accreting binaries becoming sources of superenergetic radiation. Especially, he discusses the non-radio emission from the Crab and Vela neutron stars.
