Abstract

High-quality gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy are an integral part of the treatment of gastric cancer treatment. The appropriate extent of nodal dissection has been debated, but recent trials have shown better local tumor control (with disease specific survival benefit) when D2 nodal dissection is performed with gastrectomy. This chapter, together with Chap. 33, describes the preoperative preparation, pitfalls and danger points, operative strategy, and identification of complications. Step-by-step technical instructions are included. The chapter concludes with a list of selected references.
