Abstract

Laboratory medicine is the bridge connecting laboratory and the clinic. Currently, laboratory technicians are expected to provide not only data to the physicians, but also diagnostic information based on the results. Hence, laboratory technicians have to change their role to laboratory physicians. In 2003, the Laboratory Physician Association was established by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. With this background, the new curriculum system has been established in our university. The aim of the new training system is to educate students with an integration of clinical and laboratory knowledge, and to improve their ability and quality together. This system includes reorganizing course groups, increasing multimedia- and web-based courses, utilizing open book examinations and strengthening clinically practical skills. As a result, students are inspired with learning interests, and trained with the integration of quality and creativity. Professional skills of teachers are correspondingly improved. Therefore, we developed a high-integrated, innovative and rational educational system for laboratory medicine students. While, further exploration in several aspects are demanded to continuously improve our higher education system. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014.
