Abstract

There is currently great interest in non-invasive estimation of central blood pressure. Recent development of 'hands-free', 'operator-independent' devices will greatly assist in the collection of the data necessary to propel central pressure estimation into the clinical arena. Such data include further prospective studies to compare central and peripheral pressures as predictors of events, and perhaps even studies that aim to selectively reduce central pressure, and manage blood pressure based on central rather than peripheral blood pressure targets. The ARCSolver seems to be a device that may help in this respect, but careful validation against an invasive standard is probably required first. © 2010 Macmillan Publishers Limited All rights reserved.
