Abstract

Regardless of the reason any reductions in estrogen function leads to the development of obesity and insulin resistance. In this chapter, we explore the concept that low levels of circulating estrogen are associated with the accumulation of lipid in skeletal muscle. We explore multiple possible metabolic mechanisms to address the development of the altered lipid metabolism and place a broad emphasis on the importance to women's health.
